The American Optometric Association recommends eye exams for children at 6-12 months of age, 3 years of age, and before beginning school. At Broady Optometry, we urge parents to follow these recommendations, allowing our doctors to detect any vision or eye health problems in our young patients before they cause lifelong problems. We participate in a nationwide program called InfantSEE, providing comprehensive infant eye and vision assessments within the first year of life as a no-cost public health service.
To learn more about this program, go to www.infantsee.org. Dr. Jensen is especially passionate about children’s vision, having received her first pair of glasses at age 4. Were it not for a thorough eye exam and early intervention, she would have had irreparable decreased vision in one eye, a condition called Amblyopia. Remember, young children may not realize that they see poorly, assuming that everyone sees the world as they do. The eye chart at the pediatrician’s office is not a sufficient test to detect many visual problems. Please call today to schedule your child’s eye exam.
